Gilded Inhale

The warmth of the sunshine with the sounds of the waves lapping against the mountain’s base. Birds, like seagulls, push and glide with the changing howling winds. I stand on lush greenery. The grass so flowy and soft under my bare feet. The feeling so luxurious after running uphill on the rocky soil. Every deep inhale with this view is a reward to the heaving weight I’ve experienced. The wind continues to blow without hesitating to pause for anything to catch up with its speed. It’s not pausing any time soon. The wind pushes oxygen into my lungs forcing me to smell the salty waters and dewy soft grass. Every breath feels like a memory honoring my past lives. I may be alone on this rocky mountain piled with pillows of greenery, but my mind is filled with tingles and sparks of happiness. My eyes glaze over the view beyond the mountain I stand on, across the river and beneath the Earth’s soldiers that protect the land. My humanity protected on this soil I planted myself on where the Earth threatens steep heavy fall and crash into the river bed of the quick stream beneath my feet.

My eyes squint at the bright light as I’ve been staring into the horizon for what felt like hours. The sun setting into the horizon pushes its rays into the ends of the Earth. Every ray explodes into different hues of peachy oranges to deep cherry reds. The beautiful shades blend with the dimming blue sky forming a dance of ocean blue to royal violets swirling with the sparse clouds. With every ray choosing to hide behind the edges of the Earth, the wind reclaims its power inviting a chilling embrace around my shoulders. My spine tingles in warmth and I shiver from the cold wind. A deep inhale and I throw my head back in satisfaction. I open my eyes to gaze upon the infinite blue sky above me. A glint of sparkle catches my eye, and I glance towards the shine to find a speck of singular light planted in the space beyond the painted blue dome.

The wind must’ve calmed down as the air seems to feel still for a long time. I let my arm reach out above me with my fingers stretching towards the star shining upon me. The star glimmers alone against the empty sky until its friends join, appearing as the rays fade into the grey of dusk. All I hear is the rushing water below threatening with its depth. I sink into my knees without removing my gaze down at the soft stream. Ripples from the rocks and boulders beneath the water create a waving dance. Suddenly the small peaks of each ripple reflect the shine of a diamond’s rays. I squint and look above the mountain’s peak to find the bright stare of a full moon. In awe, my lips part as my mind etches the view of the clearly visible craters into my memory. The bright stare so close to touch, and my mind attempts to satisfy the craving to hold such a magnetic beast. My ears resume the sound of soft water drops hitting against the rocks, and I let go of the moon’s glare.
